height

There are some days when I feel really tall.
When I stand next to lots of short people.
When I wear heels next to husband.
At family gatherings with husband's family.
At family gatherings with mum's side of the family.
When shopping for a pair of pants.
When trying to fit through small spaces.
However now I picture myself standing next to the tallest man in the world and suddenly I feel tiny.

I'm really not that tall after all!

fears

Everyone has fears.
If they tell you they don't they still do just they also have a fear of telling you their fear. I don't really like mice, snakes or spiders but probably my greatest fear is of heights. At Questacon they have this free fall where you drop from 6.7metres and land on a slide and slide to the bottom. You know there is a slide there but you just have to let go and drop when you can't see anything below you. I had a little freak out lining up but thankfully there was a lovely little 6 year old girl who decided she'd do it too. We walked up together and when a 6 year old is willing to do it (and she has longer to fall), how could I not? I admit it took me about 5 minutes to stop shaking after the experience but it was definately worthwhile!

Libby also conquered her fear and stuck her head in a guillotine simulator.
Aren't we brave?!?

oh im so into politics

If you'd asked me two years ago what the difference was between Liberal and Labor I wouldn't have known, or cared but with a husband and best friend passionate about politics and a deeper awareness of country problems I've decided to become informed. I taught a unit on the government to year 6/7s and starting watching more ABC programs. While I wouldn't call myself a political junkie, I have progressed to being a concerned Australian with an interest in politics. And so when I went to Canberra, how could I not stop by Parliament and have a squiz at the political centre of Australia?
The giant 'painting' I am standing in front of is actually a giant tapestry. It took 14 people 2 years to make, super impressive stuff. Also the portrait I put up is my favourite one of the prime ministers (there is a whole row of them). I'm not really sure who he is but whichever artist did his portrait did a fantastic job. If you're in Canberra, give it a visit, it really is a very impressive building and it's good to see where Australia's big decisions get made.

high tea

It felt fabulously decadent and delightfully fun to have high tea at Adore tea with Libby.
We arrived to find a beautiful white linen table and we're greeted with glasses of champagne. The high tea aimed to match teas to food and give an all round incredible experience. We were very satisfied!

First was beautiful little sandwiches matched with golden monkey Chinese tea.
Followed by a spectacular white tea where a flower and chain burst from a ball and some savoury food.
Then came sweet treats and a turkish apple iced tea. The specialty jam for the scones was infused with earl grey tea.
Last but not least was chai custard and another type of black tea.

High tea is high on my list of favourite life experiences. I highly recommend it :)

a red caravan beside a lake

I love a good burger.

I love pretty places.

Therefore eating a good burger in a pretty place makes me seriously happy.

in the capital

I've lived in Australia since birth and yet I've never been to the capital. When my best friend got her dream job in Canberra it was decided that Canberra would soon be well known to me. I packed my bags, drove 3 and a half hours to the airport and caught a delightful 6.40am flight to Australia's coldest city. Though it was much colder than home the weather was surprisingly bearable thanks to shops love of heating and Libby's hospitality which extended to her lending me coats and beanies. Libby's hospitality also included showing me the local's guide to the capital, though we did a few touristy things too for good measure.

In Canberra there are :
  • fantastic breakfast places; how I love a latte and toast with poached eggs, salmon and hollandaise sauce.
  • great shopping at the Civic centre and DFO
  • good Japanese food
  • adore tea with it's 200 types of tea and yes j'adore tea
  • Questacon
  • vintage markets and many other markets
  • a neat glassworks factory
  • a red caravan by a lake that sells some seriously spectacular burgers

All in all I must say I have grown a tad fond of our capital.
