scrabble ideas.

when i found an old scrabble board i almost jumped with joy.
i have been looking for one for so long.
and the fact it was only $2 made it even better.
so many diy possibilities.
here are a few of my favourites...

scrabble piece magnets.
decorative jar.
labelled shelves
scrabble piece coasters
shelves.
after being suitably inspired i decided to get crafty and here is how i used scrabble pieces in my home...

friends with kids.

as we get older and friends have kids we have realised that we have a non kid friendly home and nothing for kids to play with. at a garage sale on the weekend i found a beautiful old crate with lots of potential and decided to turn it into a box full of things for kids to play with when they come to visit.
now 'the kids' does not sound very interesting so i went a little french and here's the end product. cute right? i think so!
and with just a little paint...

now i just need to wait for the next set of little visitors and see if they like it.

golden book notebook.

i love golden books. i have my prized collection at home of book i had when i was a child. however when i'm browsing garage sales i always find lots of cute golden books and thought i'd buy some pretty covered ones and turn them into notebooks.
you will need:
a golden book
some lined paper
(i usually use a notebook from coles, a thin lined one which sometimes you can get on special for 5c)
some joiners
a drill
a small guillotine or some good cutting skills

1. open up the golden book and remove the pages- you will need to get to the staples that hold the book together to remove the pages.these pages can be used for all kinds of other projects or as cute wrapping paper.
2. cut your lined paper to size and insert into the golden book.
3. drill 4 small holes and insert joiners.
and there you have it your very one golden book notebook to scribble away in!

recent crafts.

i thought i'd share a few recent craft projects. i have many on the go at the moment but these ones have been finished- well until i can work out what to do with my tshirt love heart. the vase was very easy to make- simply wrap wool around an old bottle and seal with mod podge.
for the heart you need:
an old red tshirt
cardboard
staples
scissors
simply cut the old tshirt up into lots of square and then you staple it on to the cardboard backing.
for a great tutorial (and if you want to attach your love heart to a pillow) look here..

i'm loving the fact that it's saturday so i'm off to start some more projects- and hopefully complete a few more too!

make your own kids costumes- doctor, office boss and post officer.

i thought i'd share today a quick way to make some great kids costumes. all you need are some old tshirts and paint. once you have made the costumes, then scour the garage sales and you might be able to pick up some cute stethoscopes or other play accessories.
doctor: plain white tshirt, red paint.
post office worker: plain red tshirt, white and blue paint.
office boss: striped shirt, white and black paint.
these are super easy costumes that the kids in my class love and super cheap :) so that makes me smile too!

my craft evening.

it's the first week back at work and though the kids haven't started yet it's been mighty busy. however what better way to relax in the evenings than by getting a bit crafty.  i thought i'd share with you all two little craft ideas i've undertaken.
1) since our new bedroom is meant to be perfect, i've tried to make sure i love everything in it, even the tissue box. after a visit to spotlight i had the supplies to make a cute new tissue box holder for my bedside table.

before
coat the box with white paint. paint the frame black and glue the frame to the box. then choose a phrase to paint in the frame space.
and there you have it, my new tissue box.
2)  i've also been collecting jars for some time now since there are so many things you can do with them. i decided to use a few of mine to show off some treasured pictures on the mantle piece above our tv.

now to work out what to do with the rest of my jar collection?

also i just wanted to thank everyone lately for their sweet comments. i  love receiving new comments and really appreciate getting new followers and comments. thank you for visiting my blog

home tour: our bedroom

hello there. today i thought i'd give you a little tour of our bedroom since i promised i would in a previous post. it is now complete, until my creative side decides to try some more new things. our walls are a cream colour and full of  thrift shop finds and artworks. i tried to create a clean and inviting space filled with things i love, and husband helped me to decide where to put things too.
the klimt painting we picked up from an artist in vietnam and is my favourite painting. you might recognise the thrifted mirror from a  previous post.
our bedroom is full of thrifted finds like this basket  i use for storing shoes and this darling chair that someone put on hard rubbish.
\
our bed came with a little leadlight rose in the centre. it wasn't quite my taste so my dear grandpa handcarved ( isn't he amazing!!) this picture for us. it's very special as it has the cameo that was used on our wedding invites and grandpa has added a special touch- an L and P inside an S (our initials). it's so beautiful, we love it to pieces and are so thankful to have such a talented grandpa.
the mirror frame was found at a garage sale in wilmington. i thought the frame was beautiful so i replaced the glass. the artwork on our wall is by my talented friend dave. the other artwork is by me, using a frame and picture i got at a garage sale for only $5, for a tutorial on how to make an artwork like it, look here.
it's really the perfect room now to relax in. and when we decide to hit the lights...
thanks for taking a peek at our new bedroom

notes: doona- marie claire, lights- womadelaide, lamps- beacon lighting, pillows

turning tea towels into treasures.

my dear grandma recently gifted me a huge amount of tea towels that have never been used (see  a few of my favourites above). she has a cupboard at her home literally brimming with beautiful unused tea towels that people gifted her over the years. she gave some me as i've managed to trash a few tea towels in the past year and was running low. however when i saw them some of them were far too beautiful to be used to dry dishes. so i've searched the net for ideas...
i could turn them into stool covers (though first i would need to buy a stool:))
i could make a tea towel apron (source)
i could use them as gift wrapping.(source)
they could make pretty cushion covers.(source)

or be turned into a drawstring bag (source)
well at least there is definitely one that i've got a plan for. the picture of two dogs going to church was hand sewn on this tea towel and given to my grandmother for her glory box. it's at least 60 years old and super cute so i have every intention of simply putting a pretty frame round it and hanging it in my kitchen.

what would you do with a collection of beautiful vintage never been used tea towels?
